The Training Fund is committed to supporting our members through individual or small group tutoring. Tutoring is available for members who are attending college or are planning to attend college in the near future. The Fund will provide tutoring for a maximum of four hours per week.
Please contact Susan Oliver at (860) 251-6065 for information about the tutoring program. After discussing your needs, if appropriate, we will attempt to find a tutor to meet with you in your area.
College Students: Before you will be assigned a Training Fund tutor, you must first go to your college’s tutoring center for help. If you decide that a Training Fund tutor will better meet your needs, call the Fund to discuss.
Students not currently attending college: You should have a specific goal for the tutoring and this goal will be revisited by the tutor and Director of Programs at the end of the semester. This goal will be recorded in the student’s file and progress towards the goal will be evaluated at the end of each semester and recorded in the student’s file. Such goals may include:
- Help in preparing for a class that they plan to take in the following semester
- Help in a particular subject area to help the student decide whether to enroll in the following semester
Late and Absentee Policy
Please make every effort to be on time for your tutoring session. In the case of an emergency, call your tutor or the Training Fund office (860-251-6060) if you can’t meet with your tutor.
If you are late, or do not show up for your session, please note the following:
- If you are more than 20 minutes late, your tutor has the option to leave. If you come late, your tutoring session will not be extended beyond the time it was originally set.
- If you miss more than two tutoring sessions with no call/no show, you will need to wait until the next semester to receive tutoring services.
Thank you for considering your tutor’s schedule!
